Abortion ends a pregnancy, so it is an option if you need to hide your pregnancy. But the bigger question is, why do you need to hide? If you are in physical danger, we encourage you to contact the Harrison police or call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at (800) 799-SAFE (7233).
If you are concerned about losing your job or attending school, know you have rights. If you don’t know how to tell your partner or parents, we can help you. Our client advocates are here to talk with you about your situation and find out how we can help you move forward.
Have You Verified Your Pregnancy?
The first step you want to take is to confirm you have a viable (growing) pregnancy. Experts estimate as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, and 80% of those occur in the first 12 weeks. It’s possible to get a positive pregnancy test even after a miscarriage because it takes your body time to return to pre-pregnancy hormone levels.
The best way to confirm your pregnancy is with an ultrasound. If you take a no-cost, confidential pregnancy test at Reach Out and it is positive, we may be able to offer you a no-cost limited obstetrical ultrasound.
Ultrasound detects if your pregnancy is developing, determines how far along you are, and determines whether your pregnancy location is correct. If the location is incorrect, it can be life-threatening.
You Cannot Get Fired or Kicked Out of School Legally
Under federal and Ohio anti-discrimination laws, it is illegal for an employer to fire you because you are pregnant. Employers are not allowed to terminate employment based on gender, race, national origin, or age either.
Title IX protects you at school. All public and private schools, school districts, colleges, and universities receiving federal funds must comply with Title IX. You must be allowed to continue participating in class and all extracurricular activities.
